Erich Bergen, Making Headlines

Actor, Singer, Emcee, and Advocate

In a world full of negative news, it’s refreshing to see a star making positive headlines. Screen and stage actor Erich Bergen is doing just that. Besides delighting audiences with performances on CBS’s hit show Madam Secretary (opposite Tea Leoni) and Broadway’s acclaimed musical Waitress (opposite Katherine McPhee), Erich is using his star power to shed light on some of today’s most pressing issues.

Parkland Performance – MSNBC Interview

Erich was recently interviewed by MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell on the topic of music and arts education and how it plays a vital role in the well-being of today’s youth. In April, Erich performed with several Parkland students at a fundraiser benefiting the school shooting’s victims and survivors. He also weighed in on the Parkland students’ emotional performance at this year’s Tony Awards:

“I was a student of New York City public schools and I was lucky enough to have great arts and music education. As we saw with the Parkland students it is obviously a form of healing. It’s such an integral part of having a well-rounded education.”

Save the Music – C-SPAN Interview

Erich also sat down with C-SPAN’s Pedro Echevarria and VH1 Save the Music Foundation’s Henry Donahue to advocate for music and art funding for public schools.

“There is a misconception that music and art training only benefit you if you want to go into music and art as a career. That is not the case. Research shows that kids that are in a music program from an early age do better. Graduation rates increase, test scores go up, and they stay in school longer.”

Broadway Debut – People Magazine Interview

While on break from shooting Madam Secretary (which just aired its season finale), Erich made his Broadway debut in Waitress this summer. Erich spoke exclusively with People about achieving his Broadway dreams:

“I’m very grateful for the career I’ve had in film and television, but it feels so great to come back home to my first love – being on stage in front of an audience. I get to check off the No. 1 item on my bucket list, and that is so satisfying.”
