The Top Three Ted Talks for Work-Life Balance

It can be a real challenge to balance your work and home life. At times, it seems that both pull on you, and in opposite directions. It can be even harder for those that work out of a home office since the lines can get blurred. This is one area that many of us can use advice on getting right. Here are three of our top Ted Talks that relate to the work-life balance.

NIGEL MARSH: HOW TO MAKE WORK-LIFE BALANCE WORK

Nigel Marsh explores the work-life balance and why it is too important to leave your balance in the hands of others. Marsh approaches this delicate balance as he describes the perfectly balanced day. Marsh examines the balance between the three main areas of everyone’s life – family time, personal time, and productive time. He explores this balance through four observations that he is happy to share with us. Marsh has a great sense of humor and timing that he uses to keep the audience engaged as he explains to us a simple statement: small things matter.

EDUARDO BRICENO: HOW TO GET BETTER AT THINGS YOU CARE ABOUT

Eduardo Briceno tells us how to do the best for the things we care about the most. Eduardo simplifies the balance by putting life events in one of two zones – the learning zone, and the performance zone. In this theory, we can maximize our growth and development in an area by understanding how things fall into a given zone. By following his techniques, you can get better at parenting or work, which leads to a better life balance.

COURTNEY E. MARTIN: THE NEW AMERICAN DREAM

Courtney E. Martin uses the chase of the American Dream to define goals that should be important to everyone. She encourages a worldview where the important thing is to chase the dream that you believe in, not a predefined view of success. Historically Americans have had a preconceived notion of success handed to them at an early age. The drive to capture this dream has often been a contributing factor in an unbalanced life. Martin allows us to step back and re-evaluate our own dreams, putting emphasis on the parts of our life that matter most to us.
